Learning more about God

RULE #2

In your walk with Christ there are so many things that you will learn about God the more you spend time with him. To remember those things I sometimes try to to put them in order of what I learnt about God first, the second thing I learnt, the third thing I learnt and the list goes on and on. Just to remind myself of the God that I serve. I don't think that we will ever actually stop learning and discovering more and more things about God because he is bigger than life itself. But I just wanted to share with you guys on the second thing that I learnt about God in my walk with Christ. The things that I think are important for us to know as his children.

Rule #1:
God loves you

Rule #2:
God hates sin

I know it would've made more sense for me to start with Rule #1 but that post will be endless. If we look at the things that God has done for me, for you, for our families and friends through his love it's all just so incredible. So that post will actually not end if I'm to dive into those waters because they are deep πŸ˜‚.

These are not the only things that I've learnt about God. There are so many more "rules" that I've managed to come to an understanding of so that is why I've decided to add this new segment to my blog which is called "Learning more about God". I believe that for any successful relationship to work you have to really know and understand the other party that is involved. The Bible already tells us that God knows us. I mean he is the one who created us so clearly he knows all the things that go on in our minds and in our hearts. So I believe that it's important to get to know our creator so that we also come to a greater appreciation of who he is. These "rules" are more of interesting facts that the Bible gives us about God. So they aren't actually rules but I just call them that to make it easier to remember. As we go on I will continue to share the different things that I've learnt about God in my walk with Christ because it is through Christ that we are even connected to God.

God hates sin

God’s holy nature detests every kind of sin. He is grieved and provoked by sin, as we see over and over again in the Bible. Sin, and nothing else, is what separates man from God. This is why Christ shed his blood, endured the cross and its shame, and went through the agony of being God’s sacrificial Lamb.  He did it all to deal with the ugly fact of sin in your life and mine.

The bible says in Proverbs 6:16-19

16 There are six things the Lord hates—
    no, seven things he detests:
17 haughty eyes,
    a lying tongue,
    hands that kill the innocent,
18 a heart that plots evil,
feet that race to do wrong,
19 a false witness who pours out lies,
a person who sows discord in a family.

Knowing this about God has really helped me with my decision making. People often always ask what the easiest and simplest way of knowing whether or not the things that they have, the things that they do and the things that they allow into their lives are truly what God wants for them. Knowing that God hates sin will help in a lot of the decisions that we make.

With everything and everyone that we have in our lives we always have to ask ourselves whether or not those things, situations or people are bringing us closer or farther away from God. The simplest way of knowing whether or not you are getting closer or farther away is based on what those things cause you to do. If those things, situations or people are causing you to do that which God hates then that for me personally would be the simplest way of knowing that it is taking me farther away rather than closer to God. God can't reside in an environment where all the things that he doesn't like are there. Same with us, would you be in a place where there are all the things that you don't like? So God can't live in a heart that's full of sin. Light can't mix with darkness. Love can't mix with hate.

For me, the way that I look at it comes from a place where I think "So if God hates sin, why would he bring something into my life that causes me to do that which he hates?". So if there is something in my life that I know is causing me to sin, then I know that it is not God ordained and is not for me. Therefore I should have nothing to do with it. However, I do believe that God is sovereign, I always say this. So I do believe that a situation could turn around from bad to good for his glory.

If those things, people or situations are causing you to lie and be deceitful, to be disobedient to your parents, to fornicate and do all the things that the Bible tells us not to do, then it is not for you and it is not from God. Anything that is not from God will never last. God only wants to give us good things, that are full of life and light. Not death and darkness.
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Romans 6:23 KJV

The Bible tells us that God's plans for us are to prosper us. To give us hope and brighter  future (Jeremiah 29:11). Sin doesn't give us that.

Obeying the word of God, what it tells us to do what it tells us not to do. Listening to God and following his precepts. Putting him first and obeying his commandments (Exodus 20) is what gives us a prosperous future. Putting God at the centre of EVERYTHING in our lives. Anything that doesn't start with God or have him in the centre will never last.

Now I've come to realise that a lot of people think that they are doomedπŸ˜‚. They have that "I'm a sinner so might as well" mentality. You are not doomed.

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness." (1 John 1:9 NIV)

You don't have to lounge in the comfort of your sin. Like Jesus died dude. For you and for me. He also rose againπŸ’«God knew he needed to give us Jesus because he knows we aren't perfect. He knows we will fall short but he has created a way for us. A very good one too.

John 3:16-17

16 “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. 17 God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him.

As someone who has been spending a lot of time reading the Old Testament I've seen that we are actually so blessed guys πŸ˜‚. Back then if you sinned you had to do all this extra stuff like sacrificing an animal, go through ceremonial cleansing etc. And only a few people could talk to God directly. But here we are. God is just one call away. On top of that he gave us the Holy Spirit who is ALWAYS with us. To listen and to comfort. Turn back to Jesus. Go back to the foot of the cross. It's never too late. He will forgive us over and over again. But we have to do our part and have our hearts in the right places. You trying is more than enough. It's all about intention.

Also don't get it twisted. God hates the act of sinning. Not the person who is committing the sin (the sinner) because well we are sinners to a certain extent but he loves us unconditionally.

I once watched a sermon by Pastor Mike Todd where he illustrated the importance of being filled with the Holy Spirit. He explained that when you are filled with the Holy Spirit, even when sin comes it can only stay on the surface. It'll never enter your heart because the Holy Spirit already occupies your heart. So we need to invite Jesus into our hearts. Really spend time reading the word and speaking to God so that we can be filled with the Holy Spirit and not sin.

God loves you. Never forget that❤
Thank you for taking time out to read this❤
'Til next time ❤
